EDP: A friend's outing

Brenna's first EDP games were in New Jersey!  We had one on Saturday morning at !0;00 and then one at 2:00 about an hour and a half away (north) in northern New Jersey.  We knew driving up there we were going to be clobbered!  So...why did we do it?  That is the million dollar questions we were asking ourselves as we drove the 5 hours to do it!  As the coach says..."It's all about building up the friendships and it's something the girls will remember."  I could think of 100 other ways I could make this happen where the girls wouldn't get clobbered, but ok.
     The first game was epic.  We knew right away that with the girls never having played 11 v 11 and on a regulation size field that the other team could have been the Bad News Bears and it wouldn't have mattered; they still would have won!  But with the talent they had, it was even worse.  We had no shot, no chance of not even just not winning, but of not getting crushed!  All I can say is our girls are amazing and held their heads high.  And they actually got the hang of it for the second half.  The girls didn't give away nearly as many goals as they had the first half.  I think the game ended 7-0!  Rough.
     We stopped at Subway for lunch and then continued north (about an hour and a half north) to get to our second game!!  Yes, we were going further away which was only going to make our journey that much further away that night!  The second game was also an epic disaster.  We (the moms) clearly saw right away that this team we were playing was far better than the first one we had played only that morning!  Oh heck!  They looked like the Harlem Globetrotters on crack only on the soccer field.  They immediately saw they were so far out of our league and took mercy on us-they had to pass the ball 5 times before they could even shoot it!  Ha!  As if that helped!  They clearly used us as practice fodder and we were still eaten up!  However, bless our girls.  They simply began laughing, knowing that they were outmatched.  Thank goodness for the girls on our team who know how to have fun- they made it worthwhile.  And I think they killed us 12-0!  Yes, we drove for 10 hours and scored not one goal!  I can only say that we will never do that again!  We fulfilled our obligation to go, but it will not happen on our backs!  The warriors (Brenna's team) should be proud that in the face of adversity, they held their heads high, laughed the good laugh and came home stronger for it!
