Simply US: Part Deux: Basketball Banquet

it was a great morning. It's always fun to celebrate a season, a team, and individual players. The boys had a great season. They were 18-7. Before the banquet Coach Foringer sent an email out to the parents saying, "Thanks to everyone for making this season truely memorable. Came in as lambs, went out as fighters. The boys have nothing to be down about after their effort this year. After losing the first two games they came back and went 18-5 the rest of the way. Really fun to watch."
We were excited to go to the banquet. There were two highlights for us as we watched Tobin and his teammates. The first is Coach Foringer's introduction of Tobin. He said,
"This guy played in all 25 games and was a big part of our success this year. It took him until February to get his shot back because he played four months of football and most football players aren't ready to play until February. He scored 95 points this year and he grabbed 48 rebounds and he had the highest grades for this season of any player, he graded out at a 78.3% for the entire season. The only thing he really needs to do for next year is develop a killer instinct and be more aggressive around the basket. He has a tendency to over dribble. And if he can just dribble less and do more he will be fine. He works hard at his game and we love that, but let's expand the comfort zone. We need a double digit scorer for next year, and I don't know if I can wait for February for that to happen to him, but I think by then he could do that. He could be that guy. It's going to be a challenge and he's the kind of guy that when he sees a challenge in front of him, he steps up and he works as hard as he can to do what it is that we want from him. I want for him to develop a signature move, a move that will give him confidence where he has this one move that's awesome. Then he would become a force for us next year and do some things outside, he's one of those outside/inside players. We do need an impact player. Our impact player is a senior so we need some of these juniors to step up and I think that this is the guy that has a chance to do that for us and become a double digit scorer and impact player for us. We're looking forward to him coming back next year and working his butt off and taking us to the next level-Tobin Pagley"

The second highlight was when Foringer named the MVPs of the game. His philosophy was that there isn't an MVP of the team. Everybody contributes when they're out there and no one person is more important than any one else. But in a single game, there is a person that makes a difference, a MVP. So he named 18 different MVPs, one for each of the games they won! Tobin earned MVP twice! I really didn't know what to expect and was so happy to see that for him. He earned the most points in those games or had key rebounds or did something that was critical in the win over their opponent.
