The Best of Times

 

For the final 5th grade talent show act, the moms had the idea of doing a dance "through the years."  We wanted to take 20 second snippets of songs that were popular from kindergarten to 5th grade and have them dance.  And while they were dancing it, we would have had a sibling walk out on stage with the grade they were representing on it.  So, for instance we would have done Miley Cyrus's "HoeDown Throwdown" for 2nd grade, "Firework" for 4th grade and so on.  However, when we got together with the girls to discuss it, they were not having any of Miley Cyrus.  If only they could see....how cute that would have been.

Anyway, it morphed into 30 seconds of songs that they wanted to dance to.  So, the first part of the act was for the girls to rap to a rap that Lyla had made up.

 

Kindergarten to 5th grade year

Started at the bottom now we're here

Getting on the bus, we wanted our mommies to stay with us

Then we saw our friends and knew that we were all right

Good bye Rachel Carson we had a blast

 

Then it was

Cotton Eyed Joe

Cupid Shuffle

Cups Song (the girls did this without music and did the beat on the floor)

 

and then ended with the instrumental version of

 

New York, New York.

 

We had grand ambitions about having the girls sing a made up version of that song, but it didn't happen.

 

We practiced, and practiced. We were able to get in two really good practices for a few weeks and teh girls practiced at recess.   They wanted to use a hat for the New York, New York song which made us a little nervous.  Props are never a sure thing.

 

It turned out well.  The girls had a great time dancing on the stage.  I could tell they were having a good time with their smiles and giggles.  They were followed by the boys who were their biggest cheerleaders.  So much fun!!!

The boys did a dance to One Direction.  Look at their personality.  How could they not have pulled that off?

The group!  They are starting earlier and earlier, but I think this
will be the group through Brenna's middle school years.
